Homepage / Brussels Artists Chaplaincy <- You are here !
For centuries, the arts and the Christian faith have had a rich and fruitful relationship. The beauty of the Brussels cathedral is an expression of how artists can contribute towards the celebration of the love God for all. The Saint Gudula and Saint Michael Cathedral is therefore an ideal place to welcome artists who are on a spiritual journey to the mysteries of God and humanity.
In order to offer an encouraging presence of the church among the artists, Cardinal Godfried Danneels has appointed the dominican friar Alain Arnould as chaplain to the Brussels artists, whether they are actors, musicians, painters or dancers. Each Sunday between the end of October and Epiphany and between the beginning of Lent and Pentecost, the twelve-thirty mass welcomes professional actors and musicians for a joyful celebration. During the Summer the 10 o?clock mass is sung by a famous choir. The Sunday after Saint Cecilia?s Day, the annual Mass of the Artists celebrates the artistic talents which God has given to each of us and commemorates the deceased artists of the past year.
Also, each year a number of Belgian and foreign artists are given the chance to exhibit their work in the cathedral and concerts allow ancient and contemporary musicians to perform in this extraordinary site.
On simple request, Father Alain is available to artists for sacramental requests or for a simple chat.
